Description of the different types of accommodation offered by Gîtes de France en Haute Bretagne  
 
  Self-catering gites
Gites are houses or separate dwellings, often in traditional buildings, close to a farm or village. They are furnished and equipped for stays at any time of year ranging from a weekend to several weeks. The classification system of ears of corn indicates the degree of comfort, equipment, surroundings or services provided, thus helping customers to choose a property. Each gite is inspected and classified by local Gites de France officials using a table of standards issued by the National Federation.

Gites are classified as follows :

1 ear of corn
Outside space, garden furniture; one shower room and WC for up to 6 people, a second bathroom for 7 people or more; electric rotisserie or mini-oven, hob, pressure cooker, fridge, basic cleaning equipment, iron, high chair (if required).

2 ears of corn
As for 1 ear of corn plus: barbecue (except where forbidden by local byelaws), washing machine where more than 6 people, mixer, electric coffee machine, TV aerial , bed linen, table linen and towels available if required*.

3 ears of corn
As for 2 ears of corn plus: separate entrance and private garden, 2 WCs for more than 7 people, washing machine, dishwasher for 5 people and above*, oven, colour TV *, telephone*, cleaning service if required.

4 ears of corn
As for 3 ears of corn plus: building with character, top quality surroundings and interior decoration, fireplace or wood-burning stove (except where forbidden by local byelaws), microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, tumble drier for 6 people or above.

5 ears of corn
As for 4 ears of corn plus: private grounds or landscaped garden, leisure equipment such as tennis court, swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi; garage or shed ; dishwasher and tumble drier for 3 people or above, stereo, video.

Whatever the classification, you may sometimes find additional equipment or additional services which will be will be indicated in the gite description.

Chambre d'Hôtes Charmance

Chambres d?hotes are the French equivalent of Bed and Breakfast. Guests are guaranteed a warm welcome as well as a quality breakfast featuring local and regional specialities and helpful advice on what to do and where to go in the area. Each guest room is decorated in a personalised style by the owner and can be rustic, contemporary or traditional; the leisure facilities and amenities are many and varied. Chambres d?hotes provide an ideal opportunity to discover a different way of life. The price for one night includes breakfast. Some owners also offer a ?Table d?hote? evening meal.

  To make their Chambres d?Hotes easier to recognise, Gites de France have specially created a new name: Charmance. By choosing Chambres d?Hotes Charmance when travelling in France, for one night or a longer stay, you are guaranteed the high standards of hospitality, friendliness and good-living which characterise Gites de France accommodation.

Chambres d'hôtes Charmance are classified from 1 to 4 ears of corn

Simply appointed bedrooms.

2 ears of corn
Comfortable bedrooms with an en-suite shower or bathroom.

3 ears of corn
Well-appointed bedrooms with full en-suite facilities. (Bath, shower, wash basin and WC).

4 ears of corn
Luxury bedrooms with full en-suite facilities in houses of character in exceptional surroundings, often with many additional services.

 

 

Countryside Campsites

These campsites are either on a farm or in a rural setting away from towns. The number of pitches is strictly limited and the sites have full washing and toilet facilities.

 

 

Stopover Gites and Gites for Groups

These gites are equipped for stopovers by walkers and for overnight stays and holidays for groups and families.

 

 

Gites for Children

During the school holidays children aged from 6 to 13 can spend time with an approved family. This gives them the chance to enjoy life outdoors in the Breton countryside alongside other children and take part in nature rambles, discover life on a farm and meet the animals and taste local food. Some families also offer educational, artistic or sporting activities.
